FIMCAP recognises Human Rights and subscribes to their recognition, in particular United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Millenium Development Goals
The last General Assembly 2007 in Assisi developed and decide a Mission Statement related to the Millenium Develpment Goals (MDG) of the United Nations. Through workshops the delegates became more and more aware of the realities around the globe with regards to issues related to the MDGs. They realised that in the developing countries good governance is essential, but so too is a distribution of global resources or affirmative action to help the poorest nations to break the poverty trap.
Being an International Youth Organisation, FIMCAP, according to its Christian vision, realises the responsibility to work together with other like-minded organisations and governments to achieve the MDGs.
Goal no. 2 – Achieve Universal Primary Education
Education is beneficial and it should therefore be accessible to all. fimcap believes that holistic education should be provided, not only in schools but also in non-formal set-ups, so that quality education can be taken into account by the member organisations of fimcap. Quality education aims at empowering young people to develop their full potentials as human beings, so that they will be able to take up responsibilities in their societies. Aside from young people, educators should also benefit from such holistic education.
Goal no. 3 – Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
Goal no. 3 recognises the importance of women’s empowerment, gender equality and dignity in facilitating social change. Although women are guaranteed equality by the constitutions, legal protection often has failed to provide it. fimcap is aware of the difficulties women face in the different parts of the world, and the General Assembly of fimcap is committed to put its whole-hearted efforts into fulfilling the MD Goal 3.
Goal no. 6 – Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
Goal no. 6 calls for stopping and reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other major diseases, including tuberculosis. These diseases are widespread in the poorest countries. Every human being must understand their own responsibility for themselves. Everyone must behave in such a way that the diseases are prevented from spreading further. Therefore it is also important to reflect on questions concerning sexuality, as this is one way of spreading HIV. fimcap and its member organisations must be aware of the global situation, and every member organisation must be aware of the local situation in its country. It must be known how to prevent and to treat these diseases.
