Every three years FIMCAP the federation of catholic parochial youth movements, organizes a World Camp.
After eight successful editions, in 2022 FIMCAP will organize the ninth edition of the World Camp in cooperation with Chiro Botswana.
The World Camp is an encounter for young people. Participants are youth leaders between 20 and 30 years old. The host organization is asked to involve their local youth groups. Through working in local projects and living in hosting families, participants will experience the reality of daily life in Botswana, and especially the situation of the young people there. Participants will present their own culture and get to know the cultures of the other participants. Activities like songs, dances, games and liturgy will be organized as a process of cross-cultural experiences.
The World Camp gives us the concrete opportunity to show and live in solidarity. Participants will be involved in different projects and will develop their creative talents in supporting the local community.

For the Participants
It is in Botswana, approximately from 15th July to 4th August 2022.
There is a team of coordinators that are working together in all aspects to give you an amazing experience. Maria and Tina are the national coordinators, both were participants in the Philippines Worldcamp and they speak Spanish and French for easier communication with all participants. Thato and Christopher are the local coordinators for Botswana, both having a huge experience in leading their groups and organising events. There are many more people involved as this worldcamp requires a vast working force.
We advise you to take a plane from your country to Johannesburg because it is more reachable. There is the possibility to fly from Johannesburg to Gaborone, Botswana. Either way, the Botswana Local Team will pick you up at the airport.
Yes, the Botswana local team will prepare the venues and logistics with covid measures, such as special arrangements for the sleeping quarters and host families. Rest assured that all decisions are taken within covid restrictions.
It is highly recommended to be vaccinated. We cannot take the risk of having the virus spreading amongst us during the World Camp. However, if for some reason you could not get vaccinated, just drop us a message and we will discuss it together.
Active members, preferably leaders in your organisation, aged between 20 to 30 years old. Participants should be willing to learn and adapt to new environments and situations. Bring on some good vibes 🙂
There is a participation fee of 250 euros that covers accommodation, food, transport, activities and other resources that would be needed in the World Camp. FIMCAP will reimburse the full travel costs of 2 participants. Other expenses like spending money or spending some more days as a vacation are in your hands.
Subscriptions are open already and the deadline is 1st March 2022. You have to contact the responsible person for World Camp in your organisation. (maybe the International Committee, the President etc…)
Welcoming days: program with all participants together. Participants get to know each other, the hosting organisation and the host country. The theme is introduced.
Project days: the participants are split into smaller groups with mixed nationalities. Each group goes to a different project to do voluntary work. During the project days the participants stay with a host family.
Closing days: the participants come together again for closing sessions on the theme and evaluation.
Make sure that you pack light as you would move to different venues. A backpack is recommended rather than a luggage on wheels. Pack warm clothes as the temperature varies between 7℃ to 25℃. Get comfortable shoes. Get the travel vaccines for Botswana. Get your own medicines if you take some. It is better to have them handy rather than having to go to a pharmacy, as it might not always be possible. More to the date, there will also be a guided packing list.
t is an opportunity to grow personally, experience new and challenging things and learn new perspectives. Come and see yourself 🙂
Groups are not to be changed as you form friendships with each other. Besides, you will also have a local leader in your project for further assistance.
The main theme is about THE VALUE OF PLAY. As a sub-theme we will also explore digital ways to connect both locally and internationally. The participants will become connectors and raise awareness on the importance of playing and non-formal education.
Participants have to fully communicate with each other and their organisation. Participants have to participate and collaborate throughout the Worldcamp especially in the working days in the projects. They must have a positive attitude and a work ethic as this Worldcamp is not a holiday but rather we are reaching out to the local communities.
European participants have to attend a preparation seminar in May in Belgium while non-europeans could follow. They have to follow instructions related to World Camp logistics and recommendations.
They have to share their experiences and lessons learnt in their organisations. European participants have to attend a post-seminar in October in Spain. Participants of other continents have to follow a session online in order to come up with a final product.
A kick-off seminar for all the participants (either physically or online) where they get to know each other and get an introduction to the theme, the objectives of the project and intercultural dialogue.
A closing seminar for all the participants where they will work in small groups to create and develop a product as a continuation of their work done in the World Camp.

Let’s travel together from a stall to another.

There is access for healthy facilities such as pharmacies and local clinics. We will always have a first aid kit and medical attention. Many Chiros leaders are also nurses or teachers with first aid expertise.
Botswana is considered as a safe place, which rarely experiences a natural disaster. The most important advice is to come prepared for the cold weather in the winter.
