Vision:

The vision of Hatsal is to carry out the integrated ministry and to build a Young Church through the participation of all generations.

AIM:

– To foster Christian discipleship with young people and to support young people to be subjects to evangelize the Church and world.

– To promote the total personal and spiritual growth of young people.

– To support young people to organize their communities which are fundamental in building a Young Church on their own and to help families to be healthy, happy, and holy.

– To provide formation of human resources and create and provide material resources.

Board of Directors: 8 / Executive Director: 1 / Full-time staff: 4 Children & Youth: 41 / Young adults: 15 Adults: 139 (including 35 married-couples as children/youth members’ parents)

What kind of activity do they carry out?

1. Publication & Counselling: Hatsal publishes a monthly periodical Hatsal of Youth to introduce youth culture and to promote Catholic values. Hatsal also provides free counselling for parents.

2. Leadership Training programs: Hatsal offers many kinds of leadership training programs for youth ministers once a year, for young adult leaders two times a year; and Hatsal offers customized leadership training workshop for parents, adult leaders, parish councils, diocesan priests, religious people when asked.

3. Research & Development: Hatsal conducts surveys and consulting for building parish community, and researches youth ministry vision documents of local churches and latest resources for youth ministry and related ministry

4. Networking: Hatsal is nationally and internationally connected to several organizations such as KYMN (Korean Youth Ministry Network), YMS (Youth Ministry Supporters), COYA (Catholic Organization for Youth in Asia ), Asian Youth Ministry Leaders (BILA and AYD/AYMM), Asian Youth Ministry Organizations (FABC-Youth Desk, Bukal-Nn-Tipan in Philippines, Hong Kong, etc.), and Catholic Youth Ministry Organizations in the U.S. (NFCYM& other resource centers).

No, we do not wear a uniform

Do you have a theme for the year?

We do not have a clear year theme for this year yet, but we are focusing on developing non-formal education methodology so that members can be accustomed to it and be able to use it actively for cultivating youth and young adult leaders.

Are you in a society or do you have international activities?

Hatsal is an associated member of Catholic Organization for Youth in Asia (COYA). The members of Hatsal have been participating in World Youth Day and Asian Youth Day. Hatsal was the host organization of Asian Youth Ministers’ Meeting in 2014.

Do you publish a magazine or newsletter for your members?

Hatsal publishes a monthly free magazine for all youth regardless of their religion. The magazine, which has the similar name ‘Hatsal of Youth’, is to advocate youth culture based on Catholic values.

We the Latin Catholic Youth of India are in the midst of a changing world. At this juncture, with hope and courage, we unite to remove all obstacles that come in our way to achieving a renewed society in faith and love. With our firm catholic faith, we give ourselves wholeheartedly for the formation of a better India and a world.
The scope and the key areas of the work of ICYM is the promotion and encouragement of Catholic youth in Catholic Faith and Vocation, their personal commitment to Catholic values, and inspired by it, enable the youth to build a society transformed in God. In particular, the ICYM focuses on the holistic growth of the Catholic youth and on their ensuing commitment towards the Church and the arger society in India.

We dedicate this vision to the young people of India as we join hands in uplifting the ICYM Movement.

MISSion:
“We the Latin Catholic Youth Representatives of India, motivated by the Gospel values, commit ourselves to empower youth to learn, lead and serve each other and the society in faith, hope and love. ICYM started on 6 February 2000

We have 132 dioceses where we have approximately 9000 parishes. There are over 200000 members
What kind of activity do they carry out?

Mostly pastoral, cultural and sports. ICYM at the national level organises Animators Training Programmes, Conference for its leaders and conventions. Apart from this we organise quiz, cultural exchange, meet and greet programmes.
At the parish/diocesan level, they organise camps, sports and cultural events.

No. Though we would like to organise cultural exchange with other countries.

We have a team at the National level called National Executive Committee (NEXCO) who are elected from 14 regions of India. We also choose one FIMCAP representative. They are elected every two years.

Catholic Charismatic Activities (Praise and Worship, Youth fellowship, etc..)

We don’t have a specific uniform, but we wear our national dress (of Sri Lanka) for our major events. We have a logo and a flag.

Yes, we work with a year theme.

Are you in a society or do you have international activities?

We participate with other organisations where necessary with regard to our spiritual experience and interests, and the betterment of our country.

Monthly magazine Walk in the Spirit in three languages. CDs for prayers and hymns – books on prayer and general topics.

When did the organisation start?

The name Syro Malabar Youth Movement (SMYM) was officially adopted in 2015. Prior to that, youth activities were carried out under different names across various dioceses.
Organized youth activities within the Church have been active since 1978, but in different names.

How many members do you have?
The Syro-Malabar Church has approximately 1.5 to 2 million youth members. SMYM is the only official youth organization of the Church. While there is no official count of active members, the movement embraces youth participation on a large scale.
What kind of activity do they carry out?
SMYM follows a holistic approach, organizing activities in the spiritual, social, community, and educational spheres.
Do your members wear a uniform or some kind of symbol?

Members do not wear a uniform.

Do you have a theme for the year?

For the next two years, SMYM has adopted Youth Well-being as its
central theme.

Are you in a society or do you have international activities?
SMYM has mission centres and dioceses outside India. The organization collaborates with these dioceses and conducts various international programs.

There is no central-level magazine or newsletter. However, several dioceses publish their own periodicals and newsletters.
